What Does 0500 Mean?

WHAT DOES 0500 MEAN?

0500 is 5:00 in the morning — in military time, the way Jon learned to tell it.

It's the hour the alarm goes off while the house is still dark and nobody would blame you for staying in bed. It's the hour before the excuses wake up. At 0500 there is no audience, no applause, and no shortcut — there's just the decision you made last night, and whether you keep it.

That's the whole idea behind 0500DISCIPLINE. The name isn't a logo. It's a standard: earn the sunrise. Get up. Do the work — in your faith, in your body, in your finances, for your family — before the day has a chance to make the decisions for you.

You don't have to be military to live it. You don't have to be young, or uninjured, or starting from anywhere in particular. You just have to answer the alarm.

THE MAN BEHIND 0500

I'm Jon. I get up at 0500 — not because it's easy, but because discipline is the price of the life I want for my family. Faith first. Then the work. 0500DISCIPLINE is what I wear while I do it: built for early alarms, hard training, and men and women who refuse to drift. The first shirt from this store went to my training partner. Every one since carries the same standard.

On my final night jump at Fort Benning in June 2007, the soldier above me "stole my air." I dropped too fast and landed hard. The injuries that followed included a scoped right shoulder for a torn labrum, two knee surgeries including an ACL, degenerative arthritis and a torn meniscus in my right knee, cervical strain and radiculopathy, a fractured left foot, partial tendon tears in my right elbow, and plantar fasciitis in both feet. Rocky Mountain spotted fever and poisoning from the antibiotic ciprofloxacin came, too. Those setbacks handed me a lifetime of excuses. I handed them back. I rebuilt the slow way — carefully, daily, one 0500 alarm at a time — and I still train today. That's who this store is for: anyone coming back from something, who refuses to stay down.

Discipline today. Freedom tomorrow. Legacy forever.

— Jon, Founder

THE FIVE PILLARS

Everything at 0500 is built on five, in this order — because the first three are what make the last two possible:

FAITH — First, before anything. The anchor that doesn't move when the morning is hard.

FITNESS — A body kept ready. Train like the people counting on you can see you — because they can.

FINANCE — Know your numbers. A household run on purpose, not on hope.

FAMILY — The reason for all of it. Present, not just providing.

LEGACY — What your kids and grandkids will say you stood for. Built one morning at a time.

Discipline isn't the sixth pillar. It's the umbrella over all five — the thing the name stands for.
